If there’s one thing that the ThinkPad P40 Yoga will be known for, it’s flexibility. And that’s not just because of its already-famous 360-degree hinge. Rather, in one multimode mobile workstation, the P40 Yoga can answer all of a user’s creative needs. No longer do digital artists, architects and engineers have to rely on two systems – a tablet to provide a premium sketching experience and a mobile workstation to render designs in powerful applications. The P40 Yoga is the complete package.
Following the product’s launch at Autodesk University in December, the Workstation team put that flexibility to the test. We enlisted a group of users across multiple industries to gather their feedback on how the ThinkPad P40 Yoga will be used in the real world. And the results are in.
First up: The ThinkPad Pen Pro featuring Wacom® Active ES™ pen technology was a hit. Users gave high marks to the level of accuracy and control provided by the pen’s soft tip, which offered a more natural drawing experience. “I never thought I’d be able to use a pen to do CAD work,” said the editor from a leading SolidWorks and product design publication. “It’s a really intuitive way to work.”
Across the board, users were blown away by the system’s smooth operation from one application to the next. Powered by an NVIDIA® Quadro® M500M GPU with 2 GB VRAM, the P40 Yoga is ISV certified to run all major software applications, including Mischief, Live Interior 3D Pro, Inventor, Maya, Mari, Mudbox, SketchBook, Revit, KeyShot, and more – all without compromise. A senior designer from a global design, architecture and engineering firm said, “The ThinkPad P40 [Yoga] let me seamlessly move from one application to another and let me perform at an individual level for sketching or for group presentations. I really like the flexibility of using the computer for multiple tasks.”
The designer added that he also enjoyed the mobility that the P40 Yoga provides – being able to use his desktop at work, and yet still have the ability to go home and work on the same project without sacrifice. With the P40 Yoga, there is no compromise when working on the go. The ThinkPad P40 Yoga is redefining the workstation world; it simplifies life.
Users were particularly impressed with how the P40 Yoga worked with The Foundry’s Mari. “A lot of tablets can run the programs to a degree and are fine, but Mari is the one that breaks the specs in a tablet,” said the CTO for prominent visual effects school. “With the P40 Yoga, it is surprising how it just works.”
Users also praised the ThinkPad P40 Yoga for its speed, powered by the Intel® 6th Gen Core™ i processor and Intel® vPro Technology, as well as its ability to allow users to save and share different file types across the workflow for even greater collaboration with their project teams.
The P40 Yoga’s form factor, size, and weight were all credited with providing a level of versatility and mobility that no other product offers. “I’ve always wanted to be able to work from the couch but never had an option that gave me the drawing experience I needed with the mobility I wanted,” said an artist at Autodesk SketchBook.
Without a doubt, the ThinkPad P40 Yoga stretches the traditional limits of PC performance. Not only did users describe it as “versatile,” “beautiful,” “reliable,” and “durable,” many also said they’d consider replacing their current system, both laptops and tablets, with a P40 Yoga. “It’s an everything replacement,” said the product design publication editor.
